In rural areas many girls are too embarrassed to attend school during their monthly periods. The main reason for this is that they cannot afford to buy sanitary towels.
The absence from school means that they can fall behind in their education and struggle to keep up with the rest of the class. By addressing the issue that is keeping them from school, CFU hopes to be able to ensure more girls are in school all month long.
When funds are available Care for Uganda supplies afri-pads. These are washable sanitary towels which last for one year. In areas where CFU has distributed them previously, they have been gratefully received and made a big difference in school attendance.
